Thirty minutes in October
- Clear gutters and check downpipes discharge away from walls.
- Test every extractor fan: a sheet of paper should hold against the grille.
- Open trickle vents on all windows.
- Check the ground outside is at least 15 cm below the damp-proof course.
- Look for cracked render and failed pointing on the weather side.
- Set heating to a low constant rather than short bursts.
- Move furniture 5 cm off external walls.
- Plan where clothes will dry — not on radiators in closed rooms.
